Arapahoe Community College offers a full selection of composition,
literature and related courses that are designed to help students
of all interests and vocations improve their language and critical-thinking
skills. All of the courses offered by the English Department are
designed for transfer to four-year colleges, as requirements or
as electives. The Department offers courses in a traditional classroom
or hybrid mode at the Main Campus, Triad and the University Center
at Chaparral, as well as several courses online.
You've been writing for years. Why do you need to take more writing
classes?
We want to help you succeed - in college and in the world at large.
The better your ability to read, write and think, the greater your
chances for success. Each time you write, you become more skilled
at expressing your ideas for a particular purpose and audience.

Let us advise you. We'll assess your reading and writing skills
through test scores, prior education and work experience, and then
recommend courses to help you achieve your goals.
English Composition I and II help you master written English and
critical thinking skills required in college-level courses, the
business community and the world at large. Technical Writing is
an alternative to ENG 121 for students in vocational programs who
do not plan to transfer.
If you wish to be a good writer, write.

Creative writing courses-—ENG 221 and ENG 222-—help
you develop additional ways to express yourself. And the College's
award-winning literary/art magazine, Progenitor, offers an
opportunity for students to showcase their outstanding works.
Writers Studio
Writers Studio is a community for writers. Its mission is to provide
creative opportunities for Colorado writers of all levels. The English
Department offers a 18-credit Professional Achievement
Award for students interested in creative writing. Earn a credential
in fiction, nonfiction, screenwriting or poetry. Read
more about the Writers Studio.

We look forward to hearing from you.

right word is the difference between lightning and a lightning bug.

If you would benefit from additional preparation in reading, writing
or study skills before attempting college-level courses, we'll encourage
you to take advantage of appropriate courses offered by the Developmental
Studies Department. To enroll in ENG 121 or 131, students must
satisfy prerequisites in English and reading.
